Our Special Series on Parenting & Teenagers with Julia Neiman

Many questions are being asked about teenagers.  The teenage years have become “typed” as a negative phase of growth, which adults ought to “just accept it and not take personal” the complexities of transitioning into adulthood.

Many questions and answers exist about understanding teenage behaviors, and why self-harm and teen death tolls are increasingly high.  The numbers also indicate that the turn to sex, drugs and drinking seem to be more common place…   leaving lots of parents asking, “what’s going on? Is this true… How do I really get through.”

Parents do care.  Parents do want to encourage their teens to thrive.   How do we  make the most of this time to help develop their independence”?  With so many variables happening during the teenage years (just as in their earlier years), ParenTv Network is focusing on how to help relate to what teenagers are experiencing and support parents during this transitional time.    We’ve chosen Tuesdays as our day to offer a little more TLC to parenting through the teen years.

We start by bringing in a special guest, Julia Neiman, expert in parenting teenagers and teen life coach, to facilitate a series of topics that discuss the communication needs during the teen years.

Julia is founder of Transform For Life and Executive Director of Group Home Consultants. She is an experienced behavioral specialist and life coach.  With a B.S. in psychology and an M.S. in social work, Julia has 20 years of experience working with troubled teens in foster care and probation, and teens with mental health needs.  She believes that their dreams matter and is passionate about teaching them how to make those dreams come true.

After six years as a therapist working with foster and probation youth helping them to deal with emotional and behavioral issues and transform negative attitudes into positive attitudes, Julia changed her focus to that of a coach for change.  Her latest program, the Youth Economic Self Sufficiency Project, combines Monetize Your Passion with financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills to teach transitional age youth to identify their dreams and passions and create a business around their dream life.

She also trains foster parents and prospective foster parents as well as group home child care workers and staff at the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health, teaching effective, positive parenting and discipline techniques.  She has seven years experience assisting terminally ill children and their families through the transition from life to death and has coached families of autistic children to develop coping skills.

Julia started her career as an assistant teacher at a special education school.
